WHERE DRAGONFLIES WANDER Scarf Video

The silk was wet-painted with vivid yellow, bubblegum pink, and bright green, then given a generous sprinkling of salt and left to let the colors mingle and wander. The yellow became the dominant glow, like noonday sun reflecting across the river. Where the pink met the yellow, unexpected touches of orange appeared, while salty blooms of pink and green created the soft, mottled feeling of a summer marsh.

It reminded me of the river where I often kayak.

There are tangled thistles along the marsh edges, echoed here in the wispy bronze-and-green flowers with their pink centers. The pink blooms bring to mind marsh roses rose mallow. And then there are the dragonflies. Quite often, one or two will land in my kayak and keep me company.

Eventually, seven bronze dragonflies landed here and there.

There are friendly little green river snakes, swimming and winding through the grasses in every direction, more curious than menacing—little creatures that seem perfectly at home in this imaginary marsh.
