Different as night and day.
Different as Zap and Zen.
Different by nature.
United by silk.

We Didn’t Really Hire Them.

The plan was simple: find someone who could wear the scarves, stand perfectly still, and help us show you what a ZapnZen silk wearable looks like when it’s actually being worn.

We weren’t looking for a cast. We weren’t starting a modeling agency.

We certainly weren’t planning on two sisters. We ordered one. Just one mannequin.

First, There Was Dressika.

She was supposed to be our one and only model.

Dark hair.
Dark clothes.
Dark glasses.

Elegant. A little mysterious. Very Zen.

There was just one small problem. She arrived without the base that was supposed to make her stand.

Apparently, standing was going to be optional.

After a conversation with the seller asking for just the stand, they sent an entire replacement mannequin.

And that’s how we accidentally acquired a second model. At that point, it seemed rather wasteful not to give her a personality.

So the second mannequin became Dramona.

And suddenly, we had the Scarfoni sisters.

Dressika

The Zen Sister

Dressika is elegant, composed, and entirely comfortable being the center of attention. She favors sophisticated scarves, dramatic accessories, and a good pair of sunglasses.

Her fabulous hair? About nine dollars.

Her attitude was apparently included.

Dressika doesn’t seem particularly bothered by all the attention. In fact, we’re pretty sure she expects it.

Dressika: “I don’t seek attention. It simply finds me.”

Of course it does.

Dramona

The Zap Sister

Dramona is the sister who arrived unexpectedly during a heavy rainstorm when the delivery person threw the wet box into the bushes and said she was left on the front porch.

Perhaps that’s why she seems less interested in following the rules.

She gravitates toward color, movement, unusual combinations, and scarves that make you smile.

Her fabulous hair? She insisted on blonde.

If Dressika looks like she’s heading somewhere important, Dramona looks like she’s wondering what fun might happen along the way.

She’s still new around here, so we’re getting to know her. But based on her choice of scarves so far…we have a feeling she’s going to be trouble.

Dramona: “What’s the point of wearing silk if you can’t have a little fun with it?”

Dressika is not convinced.

So Much for Plans

Sometimes you make a plan. Sometimes the plan has other ideas.

That’s what painting on silk has taught us. Often, the silk has other plans.

We thought we were buying a mannequin. Instead, we ended up with two.

We thought we were creating a way to photograph scarves. Instead, we created two characters.

We thought we knew what the project would look like. But the universe had other plans.

We’ve learned to pay attention when that happens.

Because some of the best things at ZapnZen have come from not trying to control every little detail.

And apparently, that includes the models.

What They Do Around Here

They wear the silk.

They pose.

Sometimes they fall.

They offer unsolicited opinions.

Occasionally an arm falls off.

They often scare us when we walk into the room and don’t expect to see a human figure.

They make us laugh.

And they give us someone to talk to when we’re spending entirely too much time photographing a scarf.

You’ll see them throughout ZapnZen, wearing one-of-a-kind silk creations and appearing in photographs and videos.

They’ve become part of the way we tell the stories behind the silk.

So when you see:

Dressika says, or Dramona says…

you’ll know who we’re talking about.

They may be mannequins. But we’re beginning to suspect they’ve forgotten that.
